The Cincinnati Bengals are losing cornerback Darius Phillips for the season, as the team placed him on the injured reserve due to a left knee injury. He suffered the injury during the Bengals' Week 3 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Phillips, a fifth-round selection in 2018, acted as depth for the team at cornerback and carried kick returning duties. In his three games played in 2019, the former Western Michigan Bronco tallied a combined tackle, a pass deflection, and an interception. According to Pro Football Reference, he was targeted twice for no receptions allowed.
Phillips returned a kick-off for a 92-yard touchdown against Buffalo until it was called back due to a holding call on wide receiver Auden Tate.

With Phillips out for the season and on injured reserve, the Bengals lack depth behind William Jackson III and Dre Kirkpatrick. Darqueze Denard is still weeks away from being lifted off the physically unable to perform list. Cincinnati will have to turn to B.W. Webb, Tony McRae, Greg Mabin and McTyer for help at cornerback. Wide receiver Alex Erickson will be returning kicks.
The 0-3 Bengals will travel to Pennsylvania to face the 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4's “Monday Night Football” matchup. Both teams are desperate for a win after disappointing starts to the 2019 season.
