Wide receiver AJ Green doesn't like the idea of a team's record affecting whether he will play or not. Such as his team, the Cincinnati Bengals, who are 0-7 and are waiting for his return.
Green made it known, after the Bengals' loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, that the team's record will “never” dictate his return from injury.
“Everybody knows what type of guy I am,” Green said, per ESPN. “I’m not going to fake anything. I’m not going to milk anything. When I’m ready to play, you know it’s time for me to go. It doesn’t matter what the record (is). Nobody can hold me back when it’s time to play.”
AJ Green has been out since he suffered an ankle injury early into training camp. While there has been speculation of his trade out of Ohio — as he is on the last year of his contract — ESPN's Adam Schefter essentially shot down that thought process. He is not expected to return until after the NFL's Oct. 29 trade deadline.
Since sustaining the ankle injury — and receiving surgery — the Bengals have failed to give an exact date for his return. He has not practiced in full fashion once this season, yet, he hasn't been on the injured reserve. Though, as Ben Baby of ESPN reports, he did participate in drills heading into the Bengals' Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
If Green were to return after Oct. 29th, he would be playing against the Baltimore Ravens following a bye week. Next week, the Bengals are flying to Los Angeles to face the 4-3 Rams.
