The Cincinnati Bengals narrowly lost the Super Bowl to the Los Angeles Rams. Cincinnati nearly completed another second half comeback, though it was a disappointing end to a season that felt like it had some magic to it. It's natural to expect that the Bengals' loss in the big game would still be on their minds. However, that's not the only thing still lingering. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson is still a ‘sore subject' in Cincinnati following the Super Bowl loss. Here's why, as reported by NBC Sports.
“That’s a sore subject,” special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons said, via Jay Morrison of TheAthletic.com. “That’s a real sore subject.”
Bengals kicker Evan McPherson was spotted by cameras on the bench watching the Super Bowl halftime show instead of in the locker room with his team.
On the one hand, McPherson, who became something of a cult hero for Bengals fans, was seen as a fan just taking in the legendary halftime show like the rest of us. On the other hand, the rookie kicker was seen as someone who wasn't taking the game seriously enough.
Apparently, the Bengals haven't gotten over it yet, as evidenced by the words of Cincinnati's special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons, who termed it “a real sore subject.”
McPherson, who made several clutch kicks for the Bengals this year, likely has done more than enough to earn the respect of his teammates. However, it's certainly notable that the team is still seemingly fuming over his actions during the Super Bowl halftime show.
