The Denver Broncos and cornerback Chris Harris could only agree on a one-year deal, but the plan still hasn't changed for Harris – he wants to retire a Bronco. The two sides worked on a long-term extension, but couldn't find any middle ground so they decided on a one-year deal instead, coming to terms earlier this week.

When asked after practice where Harris goes from here he said he isn't quite sure, but he still wants to be in Denver long term.

“I don’t know,” Harris said after practice on May 29th, via BroncosWire. “Like I said, I’m taking it day by day. I’ve always said I wanted to retire here, and that’s always been my mentality here. So, if I have to go show them 16 games that I have to retire here, I’m going to do it.”

A one-year deal isn't really ideal for either side, but it's what could be agreed upon and it looks like they will revisit it again after this season.

Harris needs to go out there every week and prove that he deserves the type of money that he is asking for. The Broncos want him to perform well, but they don't want him to price them out of a deal where they can't afford him anymore. Harris is going to give the Broncos the first shot next offseason at a new deal, and he thinks it can still be salvaged.

“I’m definitely giving them a shot,” Harris said. “Definitely, I’m not ever going to, like I told ya’ll earlier, the situation can always be salvaged and worked out.”

An eight-year veteran, Harris made his fourth Pro Bowl last season.
