The Denver Broncos did not have a lot to boast about during the 2019 NFL campaign, but even so, rising junior wide receiver Courtland Sutton is still regretting one play against a AFC West rival that haunted him for some time.

Sutton, 24, a second-round selection by Denver in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Southern Methodist, is talking about that snowy Dec. 15, 2019, matchup in the Mile High City against what would become the Super Bowl LIV champion Kansas City Chiefs. Pro Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu broke up a pass from rookie quarterback Drew Lock in the end zone, stifling any chance for a comeback by the Broncos.
The Chiefs won that game 23-3 in what would be the only loss in Lock's five-game stretch of starting in his debut season in the NFL and for the Broncos. Lock's performance in those five games is a silver lining Broncos fans are hanging onto entering the 2020 regular season as progress for the offense; according to Sutton, his QB gets the excuse of playing the champs.
Sutton caught four passes for 79 yards that game for the Broncos, but wishes he caught at least one more while being defended by Mathieu for the score.
