The Denver Broncos and star cornerback Chris Harris Jr. have reportedly had productive discussions about a long-term contract extension. Both sides would like to get something done this offseason.

Troy Pauline, a Broncos insider for Denver7, made the original report of the discussions.

Harris is one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL and has been a lockdown corner and playmaker. His contract runs through the end of the 2019 season. Denver has decided to begin extension negotiations with him this offseason.

During the 2018 season with the Broncos, Harris ended up recording 49 total tackles to go along with a sack, three interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 10 defended passes.

At 29 years old, Harris still has some good football left to play. Denver wants to keep him in town for the rest of his career if possible. Harris also has the goal of retiring with the Broncos, if possible.

The report did not mention how serious the discussions have gotten. There is no telling whether the two sides will get something done this offseason or not.

All of that being said, this is a positive sign for the Broncos. Denver needs to keep their playmakers around if they want to accomplish their goal of getting back into contention. John Elway is certainly going to be aggressive this offseason, as can be seen from the acquisition of Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens.

Expect to hear more news about these negotiations in the near future. Harris and the Broncos don't appear to be headed for a divorce anytime soon.
