The Denver Broncos signed Bryce Callahan to be a big part of their defense this offseason, but they are concerned about when exactly he is going to be available.
According to Mike Klis of KUSA, the Broncos have started to make calls to available cornerbacks to see if they have an interest in coming in for a workout.
“There’s a concern,’’ Vic Fangio said after his Broncos head coaching debut ended in a 24-16 defeat to the Raiders.
Second-year cornerback Isaac Yiadom filled in for Callahan on Monday night and he was continually attacked by the Raiders offense. He really struggled and going forward he doesn't look to be the answer at that position for the team.
Nine months ago, Callahan underwent surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal and is still having issues with it. He was practicing during training camp until his foot was stepped on July 27th during practice and he hasn't been back on the field since.
Callahan worked with strength and conditioning coach Loren Landow before the game and after the game said he isn't allowed to talk about the injury but is frustrated.
“Oh yeah, injuries are always frustrating,” Callahan said.
It isn't expected that Callahan will need to go on the IR, but it could still be a few weeks until he can return the field and until then the defense is going to be really short-handed.
Don't be surprised if the team has a couple of cornerbacks in the building for workouts over the next couple of days.
