The Denver Broncos have officially let go of interim head coach Jerry Rosburg amid their search for a new person to guide the team on the field.
Rosburg took over the Broncos for their final two games of the 2022 season after Nathaniel Hackett was sacked following a poor run that saw the team record just four wins in 15 matches. Denver competed well under Rosburg, narrowly losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17 and beating the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18 to close the season.
Unfortunately despite the stability he provided, the Broncos opted to go another direction. Rosburg will reportedly not be part of the coaching staff moving forward, per Field Yates of ESPN.
It is certainly a sad turn of events for Jerry Rosburg, who just most recently expressed his desire to be the permanent head coach of the Broncos. Rosburg earned himself a chance to meet with ownership and outline his plan for the team if he's to take over, but while the Denver brass said they would consider it, his departure two days later made it clear they don't see him a top contender for the job all along.
It is still unknown who the Broncos will hire to help them navigate the offseason and bring them back to relevance in 2023. Sean Payton has been heavily linked with the franchise, and Denver is even considered the favorite to land the Super Bowl-winning coach. Nonetheless, as everyone knows, getting Payton comes with a steep price to pay the New Orleans Saints who owns the coach's rights.
