The Denver Broncos are living in a “world of suck,” as wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders put it on Sunday. With a young roster led by an aging quarterback, the Broncs' are 0-3 heading into Week 4's game with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Despite a young roster and aging quarterback, Sanders believes Denver can compete, only if they stop beating themselves.
“You know, we’re young,’’ Sanders said Tuesday, via Mike Klis of 9News. “We’ve got some young guys. Look at Noah Fant, a young guy. I look at Dalton (Risner) — I still look at (Garett) Bolles, he’s young. The year we went to the Super Bowl we had veteran guys even on the special teams. We had older guys on special teams.
… I understand where we’re coming from but at the same time I think we’ve got a good enough team to win now. We’ve just got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and I feel like that’s what we’ve been doing.’’
The 2019 Broncos boast a nearly entirely different roster from their Super Bowl-winning one four years ago. There are seven Broncos from the ring-team, including Sanders, outside linebacker Von Miller, cornerback Chris Harris Jr., defensive end Derek Wolfe, linebacker Todd Davis, tight end Jeff Heuerman and punter Brandon McManus.
Those seven are suffering from the growing pains of the youngsters. Nevertheless, the team has an impressive roster; they just haven't turned that into results. They also have a brand new starting quarterback, head coach (Vic Fangio) and several pieces gelling.
If the Broncos can stop shooting themselves in the foot, as Sanders puts it, and display cohesion from the players to the coaching staff, there is potential to turn it around.
0-3 is far from ideal, but teams have made the playoffs from it — ask the 2018 Houston Texans, who turned 0-3 into 11-5 and an AFC South championship.
