John Elway and the Denver Broncos clearly aren't satisfied with their quarterback corps. They plan on making an addition to the depth chart, even if they don't find a play-caller in the first round of Thursday's NFL Draft, James Palmer of NFL Network is reporting.

With the AFC West club unsuccessful thus far in finding a trade partner that would allow them to move up in the draft to select one of the proceeding's most coveted QBs, the Broncos are prepared to scour the trade market in search of an alternative to Drew Lock.

For a fanbase that has been waiting for a franchise quarterback for over half a decade, that wait may now extend past Thursday night.

While it would not be a surprise to see the Broncos select a prospect in the later rounds of the draft, given that the franchise currently owns nine picks in the proceedings, the team's insistence on having a solution in the short term makes it far more likely that Elway and company would pivot to the trade market if their first-round plans don't come to fruition.

Among the most likely targets, the Broncos could pursue in such a scenario would be the oft-traveled Nick Foles. Given that the veteran play-caller is familiar with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's game plan, the addition of Foles to the roster would ensure a smooth transition and allow the QB to challenge Lock for the starting position on the depth chart.

However, for an organization that believes it should be contending for Super Bowl appearances every season, the choice would be less than awe-inspiring.

While the draft may not start for more than 24 hours, Elway and the Broncos are already on the clock.
