The Denver Broncos will look to bounce back from their 30-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 during their upcoming matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
The outlook for the rest of the season will be bleak for the Broncos if they don't turn things around quickly. It may even be too late for that to happen regardless given that they already have an underwhelming 2-5 record.
A loss to the Colts would surely be the final nail in the proverbial coffin for the Broncos' 2019 season. With their offense struggling significant, they will need their defense to lead the way in their efforts of accomplishing an upset at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Here are three bold predictions for the Broncos' defense against the Colts.
3. The Broncos will allow 7+ third-down conversions
The Colts are not a team that typically makes dynamic or explosive plays over and over in their games. They are a more methodical unit that moves the chains progressively. The Broncos will need to contain them during third-down situations to derail Indianapolis' chances of victory.
With how ineffective the Broncos' offense is, their defense will spend lots of time on the field. In addition, the Colts' offensive line and play-calling will enable them to move the chains with effectiveness using routine execution with at least seven third-down conversions.
2. The Broncos will allow over 275 passing yards
While passing for 275 yards doesn't sound bold on the surface, it's important to note that only the Oakland Raiders in Week 1 have reached this mark against the Broncos this season. Their impact comes largely from their defensive line and secondary makes it tough on teams to move the ball between the 20-yard marks through the air.
Coming off a 321-yard passing performance against the Houston Texans, the Colts' offense led by Jacoby Brissett will put together a strong display against Denver. Reaching the 275-yard mark using their passing game is a real possibility.
1. The Broncos will allow the Colts to score 24+ points
Establishing consistency has been a real issue for the Broncos throughout the season. They went from shutting down the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 in their 16-0 shutout win and then gave up 30 points in the following week. A disparity in talent between the Titans and Chiefs obviously has an influence on those results, but it's concerning, nevertheless.
The Colts are a well-oiled machine that is coming off impressive wins over the Chiefs and Houston Texans in consecutive weeks. The momentum that Indianapolis has built will carry into their matchup with the Broncos and result in an outing with at least 24 points as Denver won't slow them down.
