The Detroit Lions will be bought by financial mogul Jeff Bezos if the rumors are to be believed. However, it seems like the team owners don't have any plan of severing ties with the Lions any time soon.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Ford family has denied the talk that the owner of the world's biggest e-commerce site will be acquiring the Lions sometime in the future. Birkett detailed that Lions president Ron Wood revealed that Bezos came to the Ford family “twice under the dark of night” to buy the team from them.

“We’ve been approached about interest in buying the team, but there’s been no serious discussions and the Ford Family plans to own the team,” Wood said, adding that there are “plans in place” for Ford to bequeath the franchise to family members.

The Ford family is one of the league's more visible owners. Martha Firestone Wood is always present on the sidelines to support the Lions. She also attends league meetings and discusses the state of the franchise with head coach Matt Patricia when time allows.

However, there is a strong sentiment among fans, saying that they should sever ties with the team and let someone else take over the reins. They have not gone past the wild card rounds since 1991 and are in a terrible rut. Even this year's iteration of the Lions may look uninspired to some.

Scores of fans think that selling the team to new ownership could solve the constant problems that have affected the Lions over the past three decades. However, they may have to endure another fifty years of Ford ownership before they get their wish.
