There has been plenty of speculation regarding the Detroit Lions plans under center this offseason. It seems the prospect of them taking Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the third overall pick in the 2020 NFL season is not considered to be too far-fetched.
Rumors have begun to swirl about quarterback Matthew Stafford's uncertain future in Detroit. According to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Tagovailoa could be a realistic option for them:
Article Continues Below“If we work off of the understanding that Tagovailoa would be best-suited to sit part (or all) of 2020 as he continues to heal his hip,” Zierlein said, “then Detroit could be a very intriguing landing spot at third overall.”
Tagovailoa has largely been pegged as the second-best quarterback prospect in this year's draft behind LSU's Joe burrow. As a result, it appears every team in the top-5 could be interested in taking a potential franchise quarterback.
Tagovailoa has been recovering from a hip injury he suffered last November. Although there was initially some concern about the potential lingering effects, recent reports indicate that he is on track for a full recovery. It seems this has led to a tremendous increase in his draft stock.
The Lions are not the only ones that have been listed as favorites to acquire his services. The Miami Dolphins also reportedly have their eye on Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick. While they may be behind ion the draft order, the Dolphins have more than enough resources at their disposal to trade up with three total first-round picks.
