The Detroit Lions signed cornerback Desmond Trufant on Wednesday, which had some believing that they could have one of the better cornerback tandems in the NFL with Trufant and Darius Slay.
But there seems to be a chance that Trufant and Slay won't even be playing together in 2020.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Lions are looking to trade Slay, as the two sides have still been unable to come to terms on a long-term deal.
Slay has one year remaining on his current contract and is set to earn $10 million in base salary next season. He nearly held out of training camp last offseason, but he ultimately decided to join the team.
Now that the Lions have signed former Falcons’ CB Desmond Trufant, it allows them to continue shopping CB Darius Slay.

The 29-year-old played in 14 games in 2019, registering 46 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 13 passes defended en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.
Darius Slay, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was originally selected by the Lions in the second round (36th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 13 contests during his rookie campaign, logging 34 tackles and five passes defended. He then became a full-time starter in his second season, recording 61 tackles, a pair of picks and 17 passes defended.
For the first four years of his career, Slay worked his way up the ranks of defensive backs in the NFL. In 2017, he made his first Pro Bowl after racking up 60 tackles, eight interceptions, a fumble recovery and a hefty 26 passes defended — also earning a First-Team All-Pro selection.
The Brunswick, Ga. native was not quite as dominant in 2018, but he was still very good, posting 43 tackles, three picks, 17 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.
