The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to defend their crown in the 2018 NFL season. Unfortunately, linebacker Nigel Bradham will have a delayed start to the year.
The NFL recently announced a one-game suspension for Bradham. Philadelphia has since released a statement via Twitter:
“We have been in contact with Nigel and the NFL regarding his suspension. We respect the league’s decision on this matter and we are disappointed that Nigel put himself in this position. Bradham's suspension stems from an incident that occurred in July 2016 involving Bradham and workers of the Miami hotel he was staying at. Although his case may have been closed in January, the league front office has finally issued a punishment for Bradham. He has also made sure to express his disappointment with how things have gone down.
The news indeed deals a blow to the Eagles' defense. Bradham is coming off a stellar 2017 campaign in which he registered 88 tackles, a sack, and eight passes defenses. As a result, they signed him to a five-year, $40 million deal in March.
Fortunately, one game is rather light for a player involved in this kind of incident so he should be back on the field in no time. Philadelphia will likely rely on backup linebackers Kamu Grugier-Hill and Corey Nelson to help fill the void in the season opener versus the Atlanta Falcons.
