New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s rookie class. He’ll also have to settle for No. 2 overall in the Madden 19 rookie ratings.
Per NFL.com, Barkley has an initial 82 rating in the popular video game. He finds himself right behind Colts guard Quentin Nelson (83), although he does have the distinction of being the top-rated rookie skill position player in this year’s game.
No. 1 overall pick, QB Baker Mayfield of the Browns, has an 81 rating, which is just behind Barkley in a tie for third along with Bears linebacker Roquan Smith.
Other notable rookie ratings include Broncos edge rusher Bradley Chubb (80), Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, Cardinals QB Josh Rosen (78), Jets QB Sam Darnold (75), and Bills QB Josh Allen (74).
Of course, Barkley could still work his rating way up over the course of the season if he can perform well enough. And unlike his fellow draft mates, he’ll have every opportunity to shine right away for the Giants, who are set to make him their featured back. Not only will he get the lion’s share of the carries, but his ability as a receiver should also see him rack up a good number of receptions.
Despite his second-best status in the Madden rookie ratings, Barkley does have the distinction of being the betting favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. If he can take advantage of all the touches he’s bound to get in the Giants’ offense, it’ll be hard to see any other rookie challenging him for the award.
