In Week 4, the Green Bay Packers matched up against the Pittsburgh Steelers and ran away with a 27-17 victory on their home turf. Their dominant showing further extended their ongoing winning streak and powered them to a 3-1 record for the top spot in the NFC North.
The Packers missed the services of a handful of their men but they were still able to contain and outplay their opponents on the field. Their increased confidence will surely help them as they prepare for their next matchup against a much-improved Cincinnati Bengals squad in Week 5.
Here are the three takeaways from the Packers' most recent victory over the Steelers:
3. Randall Cobb and AJ Dillon stepped up when it mattered the most.
Needless to say, WR1 Davante Adams is a talent that will surely attract double teams from their opponents week-in and week-out. Aside from him being checked, the receiving unit also lost Marquez Valdes-Scantling who was recently placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.
Given the situation, the Packers needed to have another threat on the field and veteran receiver Randall Cobb stepped up at the right time for the team. Against the Steelers, he led the receivers with 69 yards on five receptions to go with two touchdowns. MVS' expected absence for the next three weeks will surely allow Cobb to see more action in the field and be able to contribute more to their offense.
Meanwhile, in the running game, the production of RB1 Aaron Jones also became limited against a tough Steelers defense. However, sophomore rusher AJ Dillon was able to shoulder some of the load in the ground game and create damage for the Packers as he notched 81 yards on 15 carries.
Green Bay's offensive attack was certainly a huge factor in their win against the Steelers. After their performances, both Cobb and Dillon are expected to be more involved and play pivotal roles as the Packers aim to run more dynamic offensive schemes in the weeks to come.
2. Rookie CB Eric Stokes was impressive as he filled in for the team's injured cornerbacks.
Article Continues BelowThe Packers headed to the game against the Steelers without their starting cornerback in Kevin King. They eventually lost another starter in Jaire Alexander who sustained a shoulder injury in the second half of the game.
Without their top two cornerbacks, defensive coordinator Joe Barry had to rely on the services of rookie CB Eric Stokes. The Georgia product delivered as he produced eight tackles and recorded his first career interception which also sealed the game for Green Bay.
The absence of both King and Alexander will surely benefit Stokes as he will gain significant playing experience which will allow him to improve and adjust better to the pros in his first year in the league. With his impressive performance in Week 4, there is no doubt that the 22-year-old has a high chance of serving as a valuable contributor for the Packers moving forward.
1. The Packers are back in full form after their Week 1 loss to the Saints.
Green Bay initially started their 2021 campaign on the wrong foot after absorbing a 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. However, head coach Matt LaFleur has successfully brought together his team to win three straight games against the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, and the Steelers, respectively.
Their performance in Week 4 showed that they have already learned from their previous mistakes and are continuously improving on the field. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has also seemingly put his offseason drama behind him as he continues to buckle down and carry the team in the regular season.
Certainly enough, the Packers will become a more dangerous team once they get their starters back in full health, especially on the defensive end. With a 3-1 record, it seems like the Packers have already found their rhythm and gained more momentum which will hopefully power them to win more games for the rest of their campaign.
