When the Green Bay Packers selected Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, people wondered how Aaron Rodgers would take it.

But apparently, Rodgers has already tried to make Love feel comfortable.

“I was able to talk with him earlier,” Love told Maria Taylor of ABC during the draft broadcast, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “Really good guy. Just congratulated me, and I was just letting him know that I was excited to be able to work with him.”

There had been some deliberation earlier this offseason about whether or not the Packers would draft Rodgers' eventual replacement, and that is exactly what they did.

It was certainly a polarizing move for a franchise that just won 13 games and made it to the NFC Championship Game this past season, but with Rodgers being 36 years old and clearly on the decline, you can understand why Green Bay did it.

Remember: the Packers did the same exact thing back in 2005, when they took Rodgers with their first-round pick in spite of it being fairly clear that Brett Favre still had more years left.

Love is coming off of a rather underwhelming junior campaign in which he threw for 3,402 yards, 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 61.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 129.1.

His best collegiate season came during his sophomore year, when he finished with 3,567 yards, 32 touchdowns and six picks while completing 64 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 158.3.
