Jordan Love became a central story on Thursday night. Aaron Rodgers was looking forward to the Green Bay Packers’ selection in the 2020 NFL Draft so much that he could not hold his excitement.
“We haven't picked a skill player in the first round in 15 years, so that would be kind of cool,” said Rodgers prior to the draft on the Pat McAfee Show.
However, that someone turned out to be Jordan Love, whom the Packers drafted with 26th overall pick. The junior out of Utah State happens to share the same playing position with the 15-year veteran.
Fans and analysts are, to say the least, intrigued with the Packers’ selection and see Love as possibly the heir-apparent to Rodgers’ throne. The 21-year old has thrown 60 touchdown passes and has an average passer rating of 137.9 in 38 games with the Aggies.
Pundits have also pointed out that Love’s selection this year mirrors what happened not too long ago.
Back in 2005, the Packers selected Aaron Rodgers with the 24th overall pick as a likely successor to the legendary Brett Favre. As it turned out, the decision did wonders for the Packers as Favre retired for the first time three years later, paving the way for Rodgers to nab the starting quarterback job ever since and has established himself as one of the greatest players in the league.
Article Continues BelowPrior to the draft, Rodgers stated in the Pat McAfee Show that he will be the first to welcome the Packers’ newest member with a phone call. In light of recent developments, however, it will be very interesting on how the current dynamic plays out in Green Bay.
