The Green Bay Packers have a numbest of voids to fill in the 2020 NFL Draft. Regardless, it seems they have not ruled out bringing in a potential backup for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers have not had much luck shoring up some depth under center. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Rodgers would not take offense to them drafting a quarterback:
“I'm a realist; I know where we're at as an org and I know where I'm at my career.” He added that it doesn't matter who comes in, “I'm confident (he is) not going to beat me out anytime soon” but would like to bring in players who could “come in and help us right away.”
This is a situation that Rodgers is all too familiar with. He had been taken in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft as the future successor to quarterback Brett Favre. It seems he understands full well Green Bay's intrigue at the prospect of developing another promising talent behind him.
Of course, just because Rodgers may be OK with it, his comments indicate that the Packers should look too address more pressing needs on the roster like bringing him another weapon to work with on offense. After all, the 36-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and the shelf life of quarterbacks continues to grow in their forties.
Despite their struggles to bring in a viable backup, it has clearly become a priority for the Packers. It will be interesting to see if there are any prospects they are intrigued enough by to put in the same room as Rodgers.
