The Green Bay Packers at the beginning of a transitional period after recently parting ways with longtime head coach, Mike McCarthy. The storied franchise must now find a new leader on the sideline with Packers great Brett Favre chiming in on the situation his former team is dealing with this year.

Favre believes the most important part of the coaching search is the face the newcomer lets superstar Aaron Rodgers do his thing moving forward as he told TMZ Sports.

“I think what is most important is not to, regardless of who the coach is, they have to make sure that the offense is still geared around Aaron Rodgers,” Favre said. “Now that sounds stupid of me to say that you wouldn't do that, but it happens. You don't want to take the ball out of his hands. In fact, you want to let him flourish.

“You make sure he runs the show as he has and communicate with him. Either it's an outside coach or an inside. What we're going to do, is what you've done here in the past. We're going to allow you to do what you do, and that's been pretty good.”

Although Rodgers turned 35 this month and has dealt with injury issues over the last few years, he is still the face of the franchise and his recent contract extension states that fact due to the money the team continues to invest in the one-time Super Bowl champion.

Favre also fielded a question about whether he'd give advice to the team about their coaching search if they came calling for help. He's all for helping the team and even provided a list of candidates he believes the team should consider.

“Yeah, sure,” Favre said. “I would give them my opinion. No one has asked. Not that they should, and I haven't actually talked to any coaches, but I can think of several off the top of my head who I think, keep it in mind that Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback, would be great choices, at least in consideration, and that's Darrell Bevell. Aaron knows well and took this year off. Young. Energetic. Great coach. Brian Daboll, who was at Alabama last year as offensive coordinator. He was my quarterback coach with the Jets. I think he's the OC right now in Buffalo. Very young. Energetic. Creative mind.

“And another that comes to mind is Doug Pederson. Now I don't know if they can get him from Philly or if he would even consider that, but there's another young guy who is very creative and has proven that he can win the big one.”

That's an interesting list of candidates from the Hall of Famer. One noticeably absent candidate was Josh McDaniels who has been rumored to be a target for Green Bay.

Only time will tell what the Packers decide to do as Joe Philbin, who may also be in the running, tries to end this season on a high note.
