During the NFC Championship Game, the Packers found themselves in a hole against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers near the end of the first half. But things got even worse when Pettine would dial up a questionable coverage call on the final play of the first half that led to a 39-yard touchdown pass to Scotty Miller.

Throughout the past couple of weeks, multiple names were mentioned as potential candidates to replace Pettine. Wade Phillips saw his name pop up in the discussion after fans were clamoring for the franchise to hire him. Phillips was on the Los Angeles Rams in 2017 when LaFleur was an assistant under Sean McVay.
But it was another assistant under McVay that the Packers have chosen to hire and his name is Joe Barry. Barry was set to become the linebackers/pass-game coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers after joining Brandon Staley's staff.
In the past four seasons, Barry has worked under McVay as the assistant head coach/linebackers coach. Additionally, Barry has previous experience as a defensive coordinator when he was with the Detroit Lions and the Washington Football Team.
