The Green Bay Packers were one of the biggest stories of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft as the franchise traded up to select quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick. The issue? Aaron Rodgers is still in town.

Despite the team's insistence that they view Love as the signal-caller of the future, Green Bay still has “incredible confidence” in Rodgers moving forward, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Not only did the Packers select Love, but they also traded up from the 30th overall pick to acquire his services. Whether or not another team was on the precipice of leapfrogging Green Bay and snagging the Utah State product for themselves remains undetermined, but there was likely a reason that general manager Brian Gutekunst made the decision on a trade to swap picks with the Miami Dolphins.

Rodgers has been named to the Pro Bowl in five of the last six seasons and has churned out a 15-year career in green and gold that will likely conclude with him being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But much in the same ilk that Rodgers had to wait his turn three seasons behind Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre from 2005-07, it appears that Love may have to do the same.

Love became one of the fastest rising prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft, having forgone his senior season at Utah State to turn pro. Now, he's likely to serve as Green Bay's backup quarterback for the time being, with Rodgers as the entrenched starter and his future replacement behind him.
