The Green Bay Packers have been among the most active teams in the league in terms of interviewing for new head coaches. They’ve already interviewed the likes of Jim Caldwell, Chuck Pagano, and interim coach Joe Philbin. And apparently, New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. is part of their extensive list of candidates as well.
The Packers are set to interview Carmichael on Saturday, per Mike Triplett of ESPN. They are also going to talk to Saints tight end coach Dan Campbell.
Carmichael has been with the Saints since 2006. He began as a quarterbacks coach and quickly worked his way to offensive coordinator in 2009, the position he has kept to this day. In Carmichael’s debut season, he helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

The Packers likely see Carmichael’s close relationship with Brees and are interested if he can translate that to a connection with their own star QB, Aaron Rodgers. One of Green Bay’s goals is to find a head coach who can get the best out of Rodgers after he had a down season by his standards in 2018.
Apart from Carmichael and Campbell, the Packers also have interviews scheduled with the Patriots’ duo of Josh McDaniels and Brian Flores, the Titans’ OC Matt LaFleur. They’ve also been granted permission to speak with Steelers coach Mike Munchak, although a specific date has yet to be mentioned.
