The Green Bay Packers have already clinched the top seed of the NFC standings. They'll have the bye during Wild Card Weekend, giving them an advantage for their postseason run. Many believe the right decision is to sit the starters in the final week of the season. However, Matt LaFleur has other plans in mind against the Detroit Lions.

According to USA Today, Packers coach Matt LaFleur plans to play his starters against the Lions in Week 18. Although that decision goes against the grain, he backs his decision with statistics and analysis.

“We did some studies in terms of how other teams have fared when going into the final week of the season that had a bye, and it was overwhelming in favor of giving the guys at least some time. You weigh that information, and you also talk to your players, and these guys want to play. So that's how we're going to go about it,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

It's an argument that makes sense, especially considering how the AFC playoffs went in the 2018-19 season. The Baltimore Ravens rested all of their starters in the final week of the regular season, had the bye week, then got torched by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the playoffs. The Packers aim to avoid that scenario by at least giving the starters some reps in Week 18 this year.

Green Bay has been on fire lately and it'd be a shame for them to lose that spark because they benched the starters in the final game of the regular season. LaFleur tends to agree, as he claims, “We want to keep that momentum going into the postseason,” per USA Today.

We'll see how this game plays out, but the Packers should be able to win. The Lions have been a mess this year and it's hard to imagine they defeat the Green Bay on Sunday.
