The Green Bay Packers are scrambling to keep Aaron Rodgers. Although they are expected to do so, they still have work to do in convincing him to stick around.
Despite the uncertainty around his franchise quarterback, Matt LaFleur is happy with where the Pakcers are at. According to ProFootballTalk's Charean Williams, the head coach explained why the team is fortunate.
“We’re fortunate; we’ve got two No. 1 backs,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters at the Combine. “They both offer a little bit something different. The one thing I love about both of those guys is obviously they can run the football at a very high level, but just their contributions in the passing game, whether it’s in protection, whether it’s receiving out of the backfield, whether it’s lining them out wide. I think both of those guys are very versatile, and that’s an important part to our offense.”
LaFleur, referring to Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, has a strong point. Both of them average over four yards per carry and posted over 1,100 yards from scrimmage this past season. Even though the run game is not the best way to win in the modern game, having two running backs of this level is a real blessing.
Whether or not Rodgers returns, the Packers will have tons of talent. Rodgers' departure would affect that, though, as Davante Adams is a free agent. Jones and Dillon will still be around to support whatever QB the Packers roll out next season.
