Jaire Alexander was the No. 18 overall pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was a move that new general manager Brian Gutekunst was hoping would give the secondary the boost that it so desperately needed. Just eight weeks into the season, Alexander is proving the Packers right for taking him.

In Green Bay's Week 8 clash with the Los Angeles Rams, Alexander showed massive potential for the Packers. He was able to make a major impact on the game and was a huge part of the Packers' defense playing well enough to give the team a chance to hand L.A. their first loss of the season.

Following the game, head coach Mike McCarthy had a lot of good things to say about Alexander. He shared his thoughts on the rookie's performance in a press conference shared by Packers Wire.

“Jaire, I can’t say enough about the game that he put together all four quarters. I don’t recall seeing a young man, particularly a rookie, play at that level. It clearly was an ‘alpha performance,’ (that’s) the way we grade that.”

For those who were unable to see the game, let's take a look at what the statistics say about his game. Alexander recorded

Alexander recorded seven total tackles to go along with five defended passes. That's right, he forced five incompletions against the Rams' high-powered offense.

Whether he was covering Brandin Cooks or Robert Woods, Alexander was able to make plays. He showed that he is truly capable of being a No. 1 corner. That is impressive from a rookie who many thought was not the right pick for the Packers with fellow rookie defensive back Derwin James still on the board when Green Bay traded their pick.

Mike Pettine has a true budding star in his secondary with Alexander. Green Bay fans will thoroughly enjoy watching the former Louisville star develop over the next couple of seasons.
