Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has taken out a full-page ad in multiple Gannett newspapers to show appreciation for the team's fanbase.

McCarthy was fired by the Packers last Sunday after a 20-17 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals, which seemed like an inevitable move due to Green Bay's struggles in recent years.

The Packers are likely set to miss the playoffs for the second straight season, and that was enough to force the organization's front office to make a change at head coach.

However, after spending so many seasons in Green Bay, McCarthy has decided to thank the fans for their support in an ad that will be featured in several Saturday papers.

From JR Radcliffe of Packers News:

“It's hard to articulate the impact this job had on me and my family,” McCarthy said in the body of the ad. “From the beginning, Green Bay has welcomed me with open arms. I met my beautiful wife Jessica here and raised our family of 5 children who will always call Green Bay home. Thank you for the immense outpouring of love our family received this week and throughout our time here. This speaks to the quality of folks in the State of Wisconsin. Coach Lombardi said it best. ‘Green Bay is all about Faith, Family and Football.'”

This is certainly a first-class move from the veteran coach, who figures to get another coaching opportunity in the near future.

As for the Packers, they'll return to the field on Sunday for a showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.
