Jack Doyle of the Colts benefited from the weekend's events. One underrated storyline heading into Super Bowl LIV in Miami two weekends from now is the star tight-end matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. With George Kittle of the 49ers and Travis Kelce of the Chiefs spending this week preparing for the big game, someone(s) has to fill in at the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl.

Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper will get the nod for Kittle at the Pro Bowl in Orlando this weekend while Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle has been selected as an alternate for Kelce, according to Pro Football Talk.

After coming back from an injury-shortened 2018 season, which saw Doyle only appear in six games due to hip and kidney injuries, the seventh-year veteran tight end appeared in every game during the Colts' tumultuous 2019 regular-season campaign. Doyle, 29, recorded 448 receiving yards on 43 catches, scoring four touchdowns for Indianapolis.

Doyle's inclusion as an alternate for the Colts in the Pro Bowl this upcoming weekend is his second selection to the all-star festivities. The former undrafted tight end out of Western Kentucky University previously earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2017. Jack Doyle has a long way to go, however, to catch undrafted tight end Antonio Gates, as the now-retired star reached eight before hanging up his cleats this week.

Jack Doyle signed a three-year contract extension with the Colts in December 2019 worth $21 million, which will take him under contract in Indy through the 2022 season. While it's unclear who will lead the Colts' offense under center in the near future, Doyle, now a two-time Pro-Bowler, is confirmed to be slated in at tight end.
