There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the state of the Jacksonville Jaguars backfield. It seems they have managed to shore up some depth with the addition of former Houston Texans running back Alfred Blue.

It is no secret that Fournette's status has been up in the air moving forward. According to ESPN's Michael DiRocco, the Jaguars have signed Blue to a one-year deal:

The Jaguars signed running back Alfred Blue on Monday, adding a productive veteran as more insurance in case Leonard Fournette is not able to rebound from a disappointing 2018 season.

The move to sign BLue certainly makes plenty of sense for Jacksonville. Fournette is coming off a disastrous 2018 campaign. His struggles with injury and disciplinary issues led the Jaguars to contemplate whether or not he will be their featured back moving forward.

Blue has largely spent his career serving as a backup to running back Lamar Miller in Houston. He has had some experience as a starter in Miller's stead throughout his five years with the Texans. The veteran has proven to be as capable of a backup there is after registering 2,407 yards and eight touchdowns during his time there.

There is no question that the Jaguars hope to maintain their run-heavy approach moving forward. Of course, this could prove to be difficult if Fournette is unable to get back on track as the team's undisputed workhorse. If the promising, young star cannot get back to his elite ways, it is safe to assume that Jacksonville will be forced to rely heavily on Bue this season.
