The Jacksonville Jaguars enjoyed a stellar 2017 NFL season despite coming up short in the AFC Championship Game versus the New England Patriots. Regardless, it seems the Jaguars are content with quarterback Blake Bortles under center heading into the offseason — or so it may seem.
As with every end of a season, players usually undergo a round of exit interviews before leaving to enjoy their offseason. However, Bortles said during an appearance on Pardon My Take that he came in the form of a brief encounter with executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin:
Although Bortles had joked about Coughlin's compliment, it is still a bit perplexing to hear he did not have an official exit interview considering it was a deciding year for both Bortles and the Jaguars. Prior to the season, there had been speculation regarding his future in Jacksonville as the franchise quarterback.
Fortunately, he had arguably his best year by far from an efficiency standpoint, not to mention an appearance in the AFC title game. However, it goes without saying that he largely benefitted from the best rushing offense in the league as well. That said, Coughlin's haste only raises further uncertainty about whether or not they will stick with him moving forward.
