When the charges were filed earlier this season against Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs for (among other charges) D.U.I resulting in death, many assumed that this would be a wake-up call to everyone involved with the NFL. The message was hopefully going to be ingrained in each player that there is no reason to be getting behind the wheel of a vehicle if you are impaired or are being a danger to yourself and others with your reckless driving. That has not happened.
Instead, the NFL had more driving arrests in 2021 than in 2020 and 2019 combined, and 2022 just started with a bang with the news that Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Lemontee McCray was arrested on Sunday and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement. The charge is a second-degree felony and McCray was released on a $5,000 bond until his arraignment next month.

McCray was originally from the state of Florida and stayed there for college at the University of Florida, before becoming an undrafted free agent in 2014. He is an eight-year NFL veteran, mostly playing on special teams. McCray has also played for the Denver Broncos and the Buffalo Bills in his career, even winning Super Bowl 50 with Denver before coming home to play for the Jaguars these past five seasons.
McCray is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, so this news could not be coming at a worse time for the 31-year-old. This is McCray's first known arrest and the first NFL arrest in nine days.
