After securing the top overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft away from the New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked like they were all set to draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The 21-year-old was deemed to be head and shoulders above his counterparts and was highly regarded as the best prospect coming out of the collegiate ranks.

But after leading Ohio State to a 49-28 victory over the Clemson Tigers, Justin Fields showed the world that he can outperform the perceived No.1 pick in Lawrence especially with the immense pressure of playing in an all-important game like the Sugar Bowl.

With his stellar performance, Fields has certainly raised his draft stock and could've already sparked debates for him to be the No.1 overall pick come late April. He will get to strengthen his case even more if he comes out with another monumental performance this time against Mac Jones and the Alabama Crimson Tide for the National Football Championship on Jan. 11.

For now, it may be silly to think that the Jaguars are willing to overlook a talent like Lawrence and opt to go with Fields for the top pick. However, the pipedream can turn into a surprising reality when the Jaguars finally lure longtime collegiate head coach Urban Meyer as their new tactician for the 2021 NFL season.

The Jaguars recently opened a vacant spot in the head coaching position after parting ways with former head coach Doug Marrone. He was let go after spending five seasons with the team and concluding a 1-15 campaign for the Jaguars in the 2020 NFL season.

Meanwhile, Meyer's last stint came with the Buckeyes which he handled from 2012 to 2018. He helped the program snag a National Championship back in 2014 and garnered an overall record of 83-9 through seven seasons at the helm.

Both Meyer and Fields didn't get to cross paths in Ohio State as the quarterback only came over in 2019 after playing his rookie season with the Georgia Bulldogs. However, the linkages that both individuals have after coming from a powerhouse football program like the Buckeyes simply can't be denied.

For the Jaguars, whoever will be their new head coach will certainly effectuate the selection of the top overall pick in the coming draft. The Jacksonville-based squad would have to secure the services of Urban Meyer first in the event that they are already convinced that Justin Fields is indeed a better talent than Trevor Lawrence.

In the end, the Jaguars can only hope that whoever will be selected as the top rookie will successfully live up to the lofty expectations and can ultimately bring the team back to relevance in the years to come.
