According to a Wednesday evening report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Las Vegas Raiders have received some less than stellar news regarding rookie cornerback Damon Arnette. Rapoport has learned that the 2020 first-round pick has suffered a fractured thumb, a setback that will require a soft cast.

Although currently in a soft cast with the 2020 regular season now just a few weeks away, it is worth noting that Arnette did once play with a “club” during his collegiate playing days at Ohio State University.

The 21-year-old Arnette is currently gearing up for his first NFL season after originally being selected by the Raiders with the No. 19 overall pick in April.

The former Buckeyes standout presumably remains slated to serve as a starter for the Raiders come Week 1, though the up-and-coming defensive back will need to successfully practice with the soft cast on his thumb before such a role is solidified. Arnette was one of two first-round picks by the Raiders this past spring as Las Vegas also selected former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Henry Ruggs, who came off the board at No. 12 overall.

On the field, the Raiders are getting ready for quite the unique season as Las Vegas has yet to play a home game in Sin City. On top of relocating from Oakland to Las Vegas this offseason, the Raiders—like every other team—has had to navigate their way through an unprecedented summer. Fans will not be able to attend home games at the newly built Allegiant Stadium.
