The Oakland Raiders will open the 2018 NFL regular season on their home field on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams. Khalil Mack, who has still yet to report to the team, remains without the contract extension he's seeking from the team.

As the start of the season draws near, the trade rumors involving Mack continues to swirl. Although it seems like a drastic approach to dealing with the situation, the Raiders may still be open to the idea of parting ways with arguably their best player, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Raiders haven’t slammed the door on the possibility of trading the 2016 defensive player of the year. That said, the Raiders are being coy with the teams that have inquired.

According to Florio, the Raiders may have no shortage of very interested teams in Mack's services. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise with the 27-year-old being one of the league's elite defensive players.

Recent reports have indicated as many as a dozen teams kicking tires on a possible trade. Four teams, we’re told, are exploring the possibility very seriously.

This season the Raiders are heading in a new direction with head coach Jon Gruden returning for a second stint. Gruden hasn't been shy about parting ways with players that didn't fit with his vision for the future in Oakland and eventually Las Vegas. It remains to be seen if Mack will be a part of that future, but it is safe to say that at this point it is very much up in the air.
