CBS Sports has released their latest mock draft and they have the Las Vegas Raiders selecting Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert with the 12th overall pick. In their reasoning for the pick, they also stated the pick could be Washington Huskies standout Jacob Eason.

Jacob Eason could also make sense here; Jon Gruden will develop an affinity for one of them. Upside is the key word for each of those players. It will require some work to bring out the production.

It would make sense for the Raiders to select a quarterback with their first-round pick, although 12th overall for either of those guys might be a little bit high. Gruden loves developing his quarterbacks and he didn't get his choice when he took over the job.

The Raiders still have Derek Carr under contract for the next two years, but if they release him before this season they would only have $5 million in dead cap space, according to Spotrac.com.

Even if the Raiders drafted Herbert or Eason, chances are the Raiders wouldn't release Carr. They are both players who probably shouldn't be starting right away, so it would make sense for them to sit him behind Carr for a season or two.

With the Ducks during 2019, Herbert threw for 3,471 yards, 32 touchdowns, and six interceptions. There are some who believe he is the best quarterback prospect in this draft class, and if that's what Gruden believes there is no reason to pass him over.

It's hard to believe Carr has many years left with the Raiders, so they should try to find his replacement soon.
