Given how delicate Derek Carr's situation has been under center with the Las Vegas Raiders recently, the fact that a team signed another quarterback capable of starting would bother him.

But it isn't.

The Raiders brought in former Tennessee Titans signal-caller Marcus Mariota in free agency, but Carr does not at all feel threatened by his new teammate. He spoke about it with Vic Tafur of The Athletic:

“I gotta be honest with you, it doesn’t even bother me one bit … And that is being completely true to myself. No one outside of who I am is going to push me harder than me. Like, I always encourage guys to go ahead and wake up when I wake up, study how much I study, work hard like I work hard. I’m not the least bit looking to my left or to my right when I’m doing a rep, I’m focused on me.”

For the last few offseasons, some have wondered if the Raiders could potentially move on from Carr. This offseason in particular, Las Vegas even looked at Tom Brady, but it doesn't appear that that was ever a realistic match.

At the moment, Carr's job as the Raiders' starting quarterback appears safe. And let's not forget that Mariota lost his starting job to Ryan Tannehill this past year in Tennessee.

For that reason, it's understandable that Carr isn't all that bothered by Mariota's arrival.

Carr is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he threw for 4,054 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 70.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.8.
