Sometimes to win the trust of your head coach, you have to be neighbors with him, right? Well, that's at least what Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr thinks, as he's decided to purchase a house by Jon Gruden's when the team moves to Las Vegas in 2020.

Former NFL quarterback and Derek's brother, David Carr mentioned earlier this week that Carr would be buying a house by Gruden's in the Sin City. Earlier on Thursday, The Athletic‘s Vic Tafur confirmed Carr's reports, via Twitter. Tafur mentions that he will move in when the house is complete, so, as of current, it's still getting built.

Since Gruden signed the $100 million contract to be the Raiders' head coach again, many have reported that Carr might not be the coach's “guy.” Earlier in the offseason, before the draft, that picked up, as rumors spread that the Raiders will take either Kyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins in the 2019 NFL Draft. Of course, that didn't happen.

Rumors relating to Carr and Gruden haven't been confirmed, and he is entrenched as the starter — unless Nathan Peterman does something unforeseen (hint: he probably won't). Carr had a solid season on the 4-12 Raiders in 2018, recording 4,049 yards and 19-10 TD-INT ratio on a 68.9 completion percent rate. But, his season was a far cry from what he had done in 2016; nearly winning MVP.

Carr is under contract until 2023, but his deal contains minimal guarantees past 2020. If he doesn't regain his prior form, he may be on the chopping block coming into a loaded 2020 quarterback crop. If surprisingly, that happens, sharing the block with Gruden may get awkward.
