ESPN had a panel discuss which players at each position are fantasy football sleepers and which are fantasy football busts. In that panel, Field Yates claimed Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr as a sleeper.

Yates definitely has a strong argument for this as well: With Derek Carr having another year in Jon Gruden's system, Carr could develop. Most importantly, the weapons are there. The 2019 season will be the first year the Oakland Raiders have Antonio Brown.

Brown is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL and definitely will make things a lot easier on Carr. Alone, Brown would be more than enough to at least make Carr an intriguing fantasy football option.

The Raiders also added Tyrell Williams and Ryan Grant, while rookie Hunter Renfrow could be a player to watch this year.

You also have to give credit to Yates for thinking a little bit outside the box here. Other members of the panel chose different answers: Tom Carpenter put Russell Wilson and KC Joyner put Matt Ryan. Although I'm not 100% sure what the rules were here, I don't think many people see those two as “sleepers.”

Carr hasn't looked the same since an injury in 2016. Last season he threw the fewest touchdown passes he's ever had in a season with just 19. Due to that, many people are writing him off as just another name.

However, Carr did manage a career-high mark in yards (4,049) and completion percentage (68.9%) last season.

He's also about to have the best receiver corps he's had in his career, with Brown leading the way.

There are a lot of reasons to like Derek Carr this season when it comes to fantasy football. However, people are sleeping on those reasons. Sounds like a perfect “sleeper” pick to me.
