There has been plenty of speculation regarding the dynamic between head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr. It appears Gruden and Carr are closer than some might believe.

With training camp in full swing, the two have gotten assimilated with each other quickly. According to Levi Damien of SB Nation, Carr admits he may have already been a little brainwashed by Gruden:

“You know, the other night I was dreaming of him calling a play,” Carr said and laughed. “So, I’ll just say 24 hours. We’re always thinking of the next play, of the next call, of the next adjustment. I think he’s brainwashed me a little bit. I guess I kind of feel like his quarterback robot a little bit.”

It is encouraging to see the two have hit it off thus far. There was plenty of concern regarding how Carr would react to Gruden's intense approach. However, it seems these worries have been a bit overblown.

Carr had once established himself as one of the most promising, young quarterbacks in the NFL before a disastrous 2017 campaign seemingly lowered his status. As a result, Oakland made some significant changes to both their coaching staff and roster to make sure Carr has the tools for a comeback.

The Raiders are hoping that Gruden's knowledge with developing quarterbacks will help Carr get back to his Pro Bowl form. More than anything, the Raiders are trying to get themselves back into playoff contention in what is expected to be a competitive AFC West Division in the 2018 NFL season.
