The Oakland Raiders tried their best to make the most of this offseason while making some serious changes at several key positions. With head coach Jon Gruden most notably acquiring All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Raiders also used the 2019 NFL Draft in addition to free agency in order to solidify the team's roster.
Nonetheless, there are still a few positions that the Raiders need to fortify, mostly along the offensive front.
“We like that as a launching pad for us,” Gruden recently said, via The Mercury News. “Trent [Brown] played very well at right tackle for San Francisco. He played left tackle very well for New England. He gives us some versatility and that’s how we’re gonna start the show.”
However, it remains to be seen as to who starts at left guard for the Raiders, with Gruden publicly stating that the position is a wide open battle at the moment.
“The door is wide open at left guard,” Gruden went on to add. “We’re going to continue to look at players that can come in and compete at that position.”
Unfortunately for Gruden and company, though, the Raiders will be forced to compete against both the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West come 2019-20. With both franchises serving as some of the best in the entire NFL, the new look Raiders — and the Denver Broncos — will surely have their work cut out for them despite upgrading at several positions this offseason.
