The absence of wide receiver Antonio Brown from Oakland Raiders training camp is disappointing.
Though he's shown up and played from time-to-time, he hasn't been on the field consistently, missing the last two days. Reportedly, Brown is dealing with an undisclosed injury; though not appearing to be major, the Raiders are probably taking a cautious approach with their new superstar.
Far and away the Raiders' best player, Brown doesn't need to be at training camp to improve his game. But, he does need to be there to learn a new playbook, timing with Derek Carr, and build comradery with his new teammates and head coach.
Considering that he got a contract bump-up from the Raiders after his trade there, there is a slim chance he's holding out for any reason.
However, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden wants him back. HBO does too for “Hard Knocks with the Oakland Raiders.” Gruden told media after Friday's training camp in Napa, via The Athletic‘s Lindsay Jones;
“I think we’re all disappointed [in Brown not practicing]. We want to get the party started. We’d like to get him out here. He’s a big part of this team, but for the time being, we’re going to work hard.”
Hopefully, Gruden gets the party started soon. Brown figures to be a focal point in a massively rebuilt offense, but that may be delayed without him getting used to it.
The Raiders haven't yet said what injury Brown is dealing with, but, for the sake of good football, we hope it's nothing serious.
