Oakland Raiders cornerback Nevin Lawson has been suspended the first four games of the 2019 NFL season for PEDs, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Lawson took to Twitter to discuss his feeling about the suspension and affirmed the banned substance is Ostarine; saying in a four-paragraph apology letter:

“I am responsible for knowing every single ingrediant that goes into my body, and I apparently failed in this regard. This dissappointing and temporary setback says nothing about my constant drive and daily commitment to be a better player and human being, a priority of mine which will continue for the rest of my life.

I want to apologize to my family, my teammates, my fans and entire Raiders organization that trusted I would be on the field week one and for the entire 2019 NFL season. I can only promise to give my all when I am permitted to return to the field and will take even extra care in ensuring that no impersimable substances are consumed in the future.”

Lawson was expected to be the day-one starter at nickel cornerback alongside Gareon Conley. Nick Nelson, Trayvon Mullen, and Jordan Richards are slated to play the outside, but one may move to the slot to negate the loss of Lawson. Safeties Lamarcus Joyner and Karl Joseph should also help in potentially splitting duties at the position.

Lawson signed with the Raiders on a one-year, $3.05 million deal after playing for the Detroit Lions for five seasons. Over that span, Lawson accumulated 194 tackles and 25 pass deflections, switching between outside and inside cornerback.

As of now, Lawson can practice in training camp, but not in the regular season until he's finished serving his suspension time. He'll be able to return for a Week 5 matchup versus the Chicago Bears.
