Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has already had a lot of ups and downs in his not-very-long career. Due to that, there are a lot of mixed feelings about the player among analysts.
No matter what you feel, there's no doubt that his future with the Raiders isn't exactly guaranteed.
According to NFL analyst Doug Gottlieb, this is a “stay or leave” season for Derek Carr for his career with the Oakland Raiders.

Derek Carr was one of the biggest rising stars at the quarterback position. He had back-to-back career years in 2015 and 2016. Then came a leg injury in the last week of the 2016 season though.
After that injury, Carr had a down year in 2017 and another one in 2018 (and one that was mired with a “beef” with head coach Jon Gruden).
Article Continues BelowThere are some questions about the legitimacy of that beef between the quarterback and the coach. Even more questions could be brought up about 2018 being a “down year” for Carr.
Despite the fact that many analysts were quick to label it that way, Carr completed a career-high 68.9% of his passes for a career-high 4,049 yards. Yes, the 19 touchdown passes were the lowest of his NFL career but let's not pretend like the weapons around him were superstar quality.
That being said, Gottlieb definitely has a point when saying Carr needs to have a good year if he wants to stick with the team.
Jon Gruden has made it clear he wants to create a winning culture with his guys. If Derek Carr can't put together a solid season (and show he can lead a team to some wins), it could be the end of his time with the Oakland (soon to be Las Vegas) Raiders. If he can prove it though, he could find himself in Las Vegas for quite some time.
