With Josh Jacobs, Doug Martin, Jalen Richards, and DeAndre Washington entrenched in the Oakland Raiders' backfield, Jon Gruden's team looks to have a potent rushing attack. But, they aren't resting on their laurels. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, via Twitter, the Raiders are working out free agent, 28-year-old, running back Mike Gillislee.
Gillislee last played with the New Orleans Saints in 2018, but he brought marginal production. He was activated for four games and turned that into 16 rush attempts for 43 yards and no scores. He served as a backup while Mark Ingram was suspended, then was released when Ingram was activated to the 53-man roster. Before New Orleans, he played with the New England Patriots for a season.

After that, his production stagnated, as he recorded 104 attempts for 383 yards and five touchdowns. Before then, he was with the Buffalo Bills. For his first two years, he rode the bench, then flourishing for two seasons. In that span, he tallied 148 attempts for 844 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's widely been utilized as goalline, punch-in, back.
It's unknown what capacity Gillislee will be used if signed by the Raiders. But, one could bet that he'd be seen as a back used for minimal rushes up the gut; it's what he does best. Nonetheless, the interest signifies the Raiders aren't content with what they currently have at running back, despite spending a first on Jacobs.
