One of the most well-known and well-liked kickers in NFL history has decided to call it quits, as Sebastian Janikowski announced his retirement on Sunday.
Janikowski will hang up his cleats as the richest kicker to ever play the game, as the $53.3 million he earned throughout his NFL career tops even the legendary Adam Vinatieri, who has made $47.3 million, per Spotrac.
The 41-year-old spent 19 years in the NFL, with 18 of those seasons coming with the Oakland Raiders.
Janikowski, who played his collegiate football at Florida State University, was originally selected by the Raiders in the first round (17th pick overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft.
A kicker being drafted in the first round? That's right, but Janikowski broke all sorts of molds.
Kickers also aren't supposed to weigh around 300 pounds, but Janikowski played around 260 (at least) for much of his career, and while he wasn't the most accurate kicker of all-time, making 80.4 percent of his field-goal attempts, he had one of the strongest legs ever.
The Poland native had only one season where he didn't make a kick of 50 yards or longer, and he twice booted 60-yarders, with a 61-yard field goal coming in 2009 and a 63-yarder following in 2011, which also happened to represent Janikowski's only Pro Bowl appearance.
Janikowski led the league in field-goal makes once, nailing 33 field goals during the 2010 campaign.
He actually missed the entire 2017 season due to back issues, representing the only time in Janikowski's career where he suffered with a legitimate injury. Up until that point, he had missed just four games total.
Janikowski then landed with the Seattle Seahawks for his final season in 2018.
