With the Antonio Brown trade market heating up one of the teams that have been a rumored link is the Oakland Raiders. According to Jerry McDonald of the Mercury News, even though the trade does make sense for both sides, the team isn't willing to take a short-term fix, when the team is looking for a long term solution.

“The feeling here is while there is some interest in Brown, it’s not enough to substantially alter the Raiders’ financial structure for a short-term gain when the franchise is taking the long view.”

Brown has three years remaining in the four year $68 million deal he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There is a potential out after the 2020 season, but that would still make the team eat over $7 million in dead cap space.

Brown would give the team another star but the Raiders have more holes to fill than just at wide receiver and this is going to be a rebuild that probably takes a couple of years. As tempting as it has to be to try and sign a star like Brown it's clear the Raiders are looking at the long term, smart approach.

Even if it appears that the Raiders might be out on the Brown sweepstakes, quarterback Derek Carr said earlier this week that he would love to see him on the team.

“I would imagine he's definitely in play,” Carr told the Fresno Bee. “I hope he's in play. It would be great to add a guy like that to your team, talent like that. I don't know what it's going to cost. The contract stuff starts getting in the way and they got to figure out numbers and all that kind of stuff. I don't really like the business side of football, but I just like adding good players to our football team. If it works out in the business side, I know the locker room will be arms wide open to accepting Antonio.”
