After firing right out of the gate to kick off NFL free agency, the Los Angeles Chargers are still a few moves away from having a well-rounded roster in 2022. With recent additions of Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson and the re-signing Mike Williams, the Chargers have definitely had themselves a productive offseason. In spite of the roster altering moves they've made, there's always room for improvement.
As they aim to overtake the Kansas City Chiefs as the new kings of the AFC West, the Chargers will be looking to make a few more moves to fill out the remainder of their rotation. With all this going for the Bolts, we'll now discuss two moves they should make to complete their roster ahead of the 2022-23 NFL year.
2 moves Chargers still must make
Trade for Saquon Barkley to improve their running game
With the looming possibility of the New York Giants trading Saquon Barkley this offseason, the Chargers could benefit from this greatly. As a dual threat running back that's still just 25 years old, Barkley would thrive in LA's up-tempo offense. Playing alongside third-year gunslinger Justin Herbert and the lights out receiving corps of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Donald Parham, Barkley would be able to revive his game. Not to mention he'd be able to form a killer rushing attack with Austin Ekeler.
His versatile skillset would be a seamless fit in the Chargers' deep and dynamic offensive unit. With this move, the Chargers would catapult themselves even further into title contention. Just the very idea of Barkley playing in the same rotation as Herbert, Allen, Williams, Ekeler, and Parham would be a nightmare scenario for opposing defenses to try and prepare for.
Sign T.Y. Hilton to add even more depth at wide receiver
Even though a return to the Indianapolis Colts hasn't been completely ruled out, T.Y. Hilton might find a change of scenery more favorable. Signing Hilton would be another clutch move for the Chargers to make and add to their already explosive aerial assault. The chaos Hilton would create with Allen, Williams, and Parham would be a thing of beauty while creating all kinds of mismatches. Between their speed, route running, and balls skills, the Chargers would boast the best passing game in the NFL.
As a seasoned veteran and well accomplished wideout, Hilton would perfectly complement the skillsets of Herbert while adding to a deep and talented air game in Los Angeles. In what's already been a busy offseason for the Chargers, the addition of Hilton would be a real game changer for this Super Bowl hopeful.
Coming off a heartbreaking end to their 2021 campaign where they were within just a field goal of making the playoffs, the Chargers are now in prime position to win the AFC West. This would be their first division crown since 2009. As they inch closer to postseason relevance, the Chargers are looking as dominant as ever. It goes without saying that they'll be playing with a chip on their shoulders all season long. With so much going for them already, the Chargers will undoubtedly be a team to watch out for during the 2022-23 NFL season.
