The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have offered up its own set of challenges for rookies trying to make the jump to the NFL. This is especially true for Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert given all the responsibilities that come with playing the hardest position in sports.
The transition from Oregon's spread offense to a pro-style offense has only increased the learning curve. According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Herbert admits learning the protections has been the most difficult task op far:

Herbert's comments hardly come as any surprise given his lack of familiarity with taking snaps under center. He is still in the process of learning a proper cadence since he spent all his time clapping for snaps from shotgun in college.
Herbert is well aware of the expectations that come with being taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Although Los Angeles has plans for him as their long-term franchise quarterback, they have taken steps to ensure he is able to develop at his own pace.
Despite the departure of Philip Rivers, having Tyrod Taylor take over as the starter should provide some much-needed stability under center heading into the 2020 campaign. This should allow the Chargers to remain competitive while Herbert finds his footing before eventually taking over the offense.
