Of course, Gordon is making his return to the team after spending over two months holding out for a long-term extension. The front office never showed any signs of fulfilling his demands so there's been a standstill for quite a while.
Now, with Gordon returning, he will play out the final year of his contract with the Chargers. The dual-threat running back will join Los Angeles after they've reeled off two straight losses.
Article Continues BelowAdditionally, Gordon will become the starting running back again despite Austin Ekeler performing well in his absence. Ekeler has totaled 368 yards from scrimmage and has scored four touchdowns in the first three games in the season.
No offense to Ekeler though, Allen is closer with Gordon in the locker room and they have been focal points in the offense together for longer. Gordon and Allen are in their fifth season together and the elite receiver knows he gives them another dimension to their offense.
Plus, with the team needing to bounce back from a 1-2 start, having Gordon can provide a spark to the team. Gordon won't suit up in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins but could easily make his return in Week 5.
Along with Allen, Philip Rivers is likely ecstatic to get Gordon back in the backfield with him this season. The trio of Rivers, Allen, and Gordon is now back intact to possibly make their last run together in 2019.
